You were not born thirsty. You were born saturated.

Water was your first home. Long before it became something you drank, it was the environment that held every stage of your earliest development. You floated weightless in your mother's amniotic fluid, nourished and protected before your first breath. Perhaps that is why every system in the body still depends on it today.

At birth, nearly 78 percent of your body is water. By adulthood, that number falls closer to 60 percent, and it continues to decline with every decade.

Ancient traditions understood this long before we could measure it. Ayurveda has a word for the gradual loss of moisture that accompanies modern life: ruksha, or dryness. Not simply dry skin, but a dry body. A dry nervous system. A dry way of living.

Coffee before water. Wine before sleep. Hard workouts without replenishment. We live in a culture of depletion and call it productivity. The result is a body that may be drinking enough water to survive, yet remains functionally dehydrated where it matters most, inside the cell.

Hydration is not simply about drinking more. It is about helping water become part of you.

The Cellular Truth

We spend so much time asking how much water to drink. Far fewer of us ask whether that water is clean enough, mineral rich enough, or biologically available enough to truly hydrate us.

The most important question about water is not how much. It is how.

Plain water without minerals can actually dilute your natural electrolyte balance. Water does not become nourishment simply because you drank it. It has to cross the cell membrane and move into the cell where life actually happens.

Electrolytes are minerals that carry an electrical charge. They allow nerves to fire, muscles to contract, your heart to beat, and your brain to communicate. Frequently Asked Questions

Are eight glasses of water a day ideal? Volume is only half the story. Eight glasses of plain water, without minerals, can even dilute the electrolytes you have. The better question is whether the water you drink is mineralized enough for your cells to actually absorb it.

Why do I feel worse, not better, after drinking a lot of plain water? That is usually a sign your sodium and potassium are already low. Flooding the body with plain water dilutes them further. Adding minerals, a pinch of quality salt or an electrolyte, often fixes the very symptom more water was supposed to solve.

Do I need electrolytes if I am not an athlete? Most likely yes. The gap is not about exercise, it is about depleted soil, packaged food, stress, and caffeine. Most women run low on potassium and magnesium regardless of how active they are.

What is the best form of magnesium, and when do I take it? Glycinate is well absorbed and calming, best in the evening about an hour before bed. The cheap oxide form is poorly absorbed. Malate is a good daytime, energy-supporting form. Skip magnesium during pregnancy unless your provider guides it.

Does reverse osmosis water need remineralizing? Yes. Reverse osmosis strips the contaminants along with the minerals, leaving flat and less usable water. Remineralizing with trace mineral drops, a quality salt, or a marine mineral restores both the taste and the benefit.

How do I know if I am low in potassium or magnesium? Your body signals before your labs do. Night cramps, palpitations, constipation, and creeping blood pressure point to low potassium.
